    AgricFresh is a Cameroonian startup dedicated to addressing the critical problem of post-harvest loss plaguing Cameroons agricultural sector. We recognize the immense waste occurring at the farm level, with 30-40% of perishable produce like tomatoes, cabbages, and pineapples going to waste. To combat this, we've developed a comprehensive approach. Our focus starts with professionalizing post-harvest management to minimize spoilage right from the farm. To ensure farmers get the best value for their hard work, we've created a solar powered cold storage innovation and digital platform directly connecting them to buyers, placing them at the heart of the market. We're revolutionizing cold storage with our solar-powered units available on a flexible pay-as-you-store basis. This innovation not only preserves produce quality for over 21 days but also makes cold storage accessible to all farmers. By combining these elements, AgricFresh aims to build a sustainable and scalable solution that empowers farmers, reduces food waste, and strengthens food security across the region.

This problem results in a staggering amount of food waste, with figures indicating that globally, 1.3 billion tonnes of food are lost annually. In Africa, the situation is particularly critical for perishable produce like tomatoes, where post-harvest losses can reach 30-40%. This translates to concrete losses for farmers, like those in our pilot community of Foumbot, Cameroon, who experience annual losses of about 4,200 tonnes of tomatoes and 10,000 tonnes of other fresh produce. These losses are driven by factors such as inefficient storage, lack of cold chain infrastructure, and limited market access, leading to short shelf life, reduced income for farmers, and significant food waste. By addressing these challenges, AgricFresh aims to improve food security, reduce economic losses, and empower smallholder farmers.

    We have implemented a multifaceted revenue generation strategy to sustain AgricFresh operations and achieve its mission. The core of our revenue stream is derived from the utilization of our cold storage facilities. Farmers are charged a daily fee of 300 CFA francs per crate stored, operating on a flexible pay-as-you-store model. This approach ensures that farmers only incur costs for the storage they actually utilize. To cater to diverse farmer needs and create a steady income stream, we offer subscription plans. These plans vary in storage capacity and additional features, allowing farmers to choose the package that best suits their requirements. By subscribing, farmers commit to regular payments, providing AgricFresh with a predictable revenue source. Additionally, a small commission is levied on each transaction conducted through our market linkage platform. This fee is generated when farmers successfully sell their produce to buyers facilitated by our platform, contributing to the overall revenue generation. Through the strategic combination of these revenue streams, AgricFresh establishes a sustainable business model that supports our core objective of minimizing post-harvest loss and empowering smallholder farmers.
